My piece today,
I hope to begin now and continue to share valuable content that will create a mental shift from how we view education today to how it should be.
So tighten your seat-belt and prepare for the world 🌎 of innovative construction of our teaching and learning experiences .
I begin ~
I observe that humans by default copy. We copy what we like, admire, or feel good about. We even copy things or people we feel are better than us. We copy people we want to be like. We copy our mentors. In conclusion, we copy to be better.
And that's okay. What's not okay is not knowing what to copy!!!!
Now let's bring this to context. In education, we follow what the colonial masters brought to us. In fact they didn't just bring it, they taught it to us and we adopted it wholeheartedly.
Now, that's good because it brought immense development to our nation and at one point, we wanted our independence and guess what? We got it!
Good right? 🤔🤔🤔
Do you know what my problem is? It seems from generation after generation after generation, we've copied ourselves to stagnation! Excuse that word but please look around us!
We complain about our system but still go right back into our classrooms and do exactly the same thing! When do we want to stop using that cliche "think outside the box"?🙄
For crying out loud, there's no box! We put it there! We wanted to conform to fit in! The truth is, we weren't made to fit in but to grow and become better. A box only keeps you the same.
So my take for today?
Begin to put your classrooms where your mouth is and grow(I had to that). Change. Design. Solve. I learnt something I want to share with you today.
I learnt that if you truly wanted to give children the best education there is, learn from your time with them. I mean form what they teach you and try not to be scared to implement it.
I learnt that when children cry, something is wrong. Find out what it is and fix it. Most importantly, try to ensure it doesn't happen again.
If a child doesn't like a subject, find out why and try to fix it. Try to see to it that the situation is readjusted to suite him/her before they begin to discover the so many learning styles they receive the most from.
I also learnt that children don't learn optimally when put to sit in one position for hours. Try to see to it that you move them around a bit. The difference is clear.
And lastly, for now, try to get fully involved to create the environment that provides insightful knowledge for the post millennials under our tutelage.
Always sharing educational tips with love
